Digital Books​
  • Libby via Overdrive - A mobile phone app with access to library ebooks and audiobooks. Need library card.

  • SimplyE: NYPL's E-Reader - Another app for mobile devices. You need to have a New York Public Library card.  Parents need to download for students under 13.

  • Open Library - An open, editable library catalog, building towards a web page for every book ever published

  • Audible - For as long as schools are closed, kids can instantly stream stories for free on a desktop, laptop, phone or tablet.  37 titles for “Littlest Listeners”, 74 for the elementary audience, 40 for tweens, 66 for teens, 28 classics, and 26 folk tales/fairy tales, plus offerings in French, Spanish, German, Italian, and Japanese.

  • Storyline Online - SAG-AFTRA Foundation’s award-winning children’s literacy website -- streams videos featuring celebrated actors reading children’s books alongside creatively produced illustrations. 

  • The International Children’s Digital Library promotes tolerance and respect for diverese cultures by providing access to children’s literature from around the world.

  • Epic! - (Grades K-6) Teacher has to invite for free trial. Stay tuned.

  • Unite for Literacy - (PreK-3) Free access to more than 400 original picture books, one fourth of them written in Spanish. The digital books provide audio narrations in more than 40 languages, spoken by native speakers in warm, expressive voices. 

  • Free eBooks from B&N for Nook - Useful if your household has a Nook.

  • Amazon Kindle - Free Kindle books with a 30-day trial.

  • Gizmo’s Freeware - This is an overwhelming listing of 913 sites that legally offer free books (eBooks) for download or for online viewing. 

  • Boyd Mills & Kane - High quality website of e-books for purchase, ages 3-11.

  • The Book Pantry by Simon and Schuster - Books for purchase, and downloadable activities.

  • Themed Collections by Simon and Schuster

  • Teen Book Cloud - Free database of books for 6-12 grade. No Warriors, but lots of other good stuff.
